Title I Part A
The purpose of Title I Part A is to help ensure that all children have the opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach proficiency on challenging state academic standards and assessments. As the largest federal program supporting elementary and secondary education, Title I targets these resources to the districts and schools where the needs are greatest. Every school in Okeechobee County receives Title I funding.
Parent and Family Engagement
Family Engagement helps promote academic success. The more involved you are, the more likely your child will give his or her best effort and be successful. Become a member of your child’s School Advisory Council (SAC) and/or Parent – Teacher Organization (PTO); attend Literacy Nights and other special events hosted by your child’s school; and keep the line of communication open between you and your child and between you and your child’s teacher(s). School success takes TEAMWORK, so stay involved!
Research tells us that students with engaged parents and families are more likely to:
Learn to read faster
Have higher grades and test scores
Be promoted and take more challenging classes
Adapt better to school and have better attendance
Have better social skills and behavior
Graduate
Go on to community/technical college or university
School-Parent Compact
The School-Parent Compact is an agreement between parents, students, and teachers. The purpose of the compact is to establish a partnership between the home and school, which is necessary to maximize student learning. Compacts are created at the beginning of each school year during a parent/teacher conference. Compacts should be reviewed, evaluated, and modified throughout the school year.
Parents Right to Know
The Parents Right to Know is distributed to the parents or guardians of students attending Title I schools. Parents can be assured that they will be informed of their child’s level of achievement on Florida Standards Assessment (FSA) and other assessments throughout the school year. Please read below about your rights to know concerning the qualifications of teachers.
Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Section 1112(e) PARENTS RIGHT-TO-KNOW.—
Parents may request:
Whether a teacher is state certified.
Whether a teacher is teaching under emergency or other provisional status.
The bachelor’s degree major of the teacher and any other graduate degree major or certification.
Whether a child is provided services by paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications.
Information on policies regarding student participation in assessments and procedures for opting out.
Information on required assessments that include:
subject matter tested
purpose of the test
source of the requirement (if applicable)
amount of time it takes students to complete the test
time and format of disseminating results
The process for requesting information:
Parents, guardians, or the general public may make request, either in writing or verbally, directly to the school or district office.
The process for providing information:
Upon receipt of either a verbal or written request, the information will be provided in a timely manner.
Requested information will be provided in the same manner in which it was received, i.e. email or letter.

The report cards serve as a valuable resource by offering greater transparency into how the state, districts and schools are doing with regard to student achievement and success, including student subgroup performance. Information contained in these report cards will empower parents to make the best choices for their child’s education.
